Subjects examined by the Board are:
- Bharatha Natyam
- Carnatic Keyboard
- Carnatic Vocal
- Veena
- Carnatic Violin
- Mirudangam
- Carnatic Flute
- Tabla
- Jalatharagam
There are 9 Grades for each subject. Candidates will have to do Practical and Theory Exams for all subjects.

Grade 1 and 2 will have Theory orally along with their Practical test. |

Grade 3 and above will have to sit for a written Theory paper. Candidates can choose to answer in English or Tamil. |

Candidates completing the 8th Grade will be awarded a Diploma with the title ‘Kalajothy’. They should complete Grade 7 (Practical & Theory) to qualify for Diploma and title ” Kalajothy”. |

Candidates who complete the 9th Grade or Post Diploma will be awarded the title ‘Vidya Bushan’. They should complete Grade 7 & Grade 8 ( Practical & Theory ) to qualify for Post Diploma and title “Vidya Bushan”. |
